Three Things That Transformed My Life

Three years ago, I was a busy nephrologist (kidney doctor) working 100 hour work weeks (almost unbelievable, right?). My husband was in another town two hours from home in pharmacy school while I stayed home with our two children who were three and four years old at the time. Needles to say, I was burning the candle at both ends and totally burnt myself out. I felt tired and run down. I knew something had to change, but I wasn’t sure how to make that happen.

After much soul-searching, I realized that one of the secret components to having more of a balanced life is financial stability. My view on money was completely transformed when I began listening to the Dave Ramsey show. It was quite a relief, actually. Having his baby steps to financial peace as my blueprint was fantastic. It helped me to become debt-free and build my emergency fund!

Listening to Dave Ramsey’s podcast started off as an innocent habit but it became the gateway to about 40 more podcasts on topics that I love such as personal finance, self-help, and coaching. Listening to podcasts have transformed my life by giving me a free and easy on-demand medium for self education and applying knowledge to get more of what I want in my life. In fact, I learned about Toastmasters (a nonprofit organization that develops public speaking and communication skills) on Lewis Howe’s podcast. I also learned about life coaching on podcasts. I noticed that all the high achievers had coaches and I wanted one but wasn’t sure where to start. One day while listening to a podcast, I heard of a life coach who was also a physician mom like myself so I emailed her right away and started working with her.

Working with my life coach transformed my life because she helped me to see that l can live the life that I desire. I left my job, switched from nephrology to internal medicine, and currently work on an as-need basis as an adult hospitalist. I am extremely happy with the work-life balance and financial peace I have achieved. Did I also mention that during coach training, I learned of a weight loss coaching, applied it in my life, and lost 30lbs of my post baby weight? The best part is that I get to work as a coach for my side gig. I want to pay forward what my coach did for me. The only thing I wish is that I had known about life coaching sooner!

So there you have it folks: financial stability, podcasts, and life coaching have completely changed my life for the better. Now it’s time for you to apply what you’ve learned. Are you ready for your transformation?

Finally, I have a question for you… If you could have a private conversation with me, what two questions would you like to ask me?
