Setting priorities that work for your life is easier said than done. In my case, a great deal of soul searching, reading tons of books, and listening to podcasts are what created awareness and insight about prioritizing. Subsequently, I hired a coach to assist me in establishing my priorities and to streamline the process of organizing them.
After much self-reflection, paired with the guidance of a coach, I realized my top priority is having freedom and flexibility in my life to spend time with my kids while they are still young. Everyone’s priorities differ, but the best part is that you get to decide!
What comes to mind for you when you think of priorities? Write it down, even if it is only one thought (as long as you feel strongly about it, you are off to a great start). This will lay the groundwork for designing the balanced life you crave and deserve.
If nothing comes to mind right away, begin reflecting on your life and what means the most to you. I’ll let you in on a quick prioritizing tip that I’ve recently learned from a podcast: pick a topic or area of interest every month and spend just 15 minutes a day doing research on it. This will help you to constantly focus on the things that you value and thus, help you to arrange your priorities. You’d be surprised by how the smallest tips can make the most immense impact!
