Have you stopped pursuing your New Year’s resolutions, already? If so, know that you’re not alone. Truthfully speaking, New Year’s resolutions rarely ever work out the way they are supposed to, if they even work at all! What does work is intentionally setting goals with a plan that will help you achieve them.
Last year, I joined an outstanding cutting-edge skincare and wellness company run by Jeff Olson, the author of The Slight Edge. Jeff held a goal planning training for us, and it was so amazing that I simply cannot keep this to myself! So, here goes.
There are 5 steps to winning and achieving your goals for the year:
STEP #1: Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals
Specific: Get very detailed with your goals.
Measurable: Add numbers like dates/times/amounts so you can measure your progress.
Achievable: Be 100% honest with yourself and make sure your goals are attainable.
Relevant: Your goals should be connected to who you are and what matters to you.
Time-bound: Having a timeframe helps in achieving goal(s). A goal without a time frame is just a dream.
STEP #2: Come Up with a Plan
Devising a plan translates your goals into action steps that you can take daily, weekly, monthly, and so on.
STEP #3: Identify the Sacrifice
ID the sacrifice and pain you are willing to undergo, because you have to sacrifice to get what you want. This will mentally prepare you for what is to come.
STEP #4: Carry Out Your Plan with Flexibility
Work with the plan knowing that change is inevitable, so being adaptable is necessary.
STEP #5: Review and Adjust
Review your progress daily, weekly, monthly and adjust your plans accordingly.
BONUS STEP: Hold Yourself Accountable
Adopt a daily ritual of writing what your action steps are for the day, and at the end of the day write down what you did to achieve your goals to keep you accountable.
I hope that you found this helpful. Think big, create a realistic plan, and go for it. Let’s make 2020 a prosperous year!
